Ho Chi Minh City Open University organizes the Kick-off Program for the UNESCO UNITWIN 2025 Project

On the morning of March 12th, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, in collaboration with the Korea National Open University, organized the Kick-off Meeting for the UNESCO UNITWIN 2025 Project under the theme: The Future of Distance Education in the Age of AI: Challenges, Opportunities, and Global Collaboration.

Attending the program, on behalf of Ho Chi Minh City Open University were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President of the Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Dr. Le Nguyen Quoc Khang – Vice President of the University, along with leaders of affiliated and subordinate units of the university. The event was also honored to welcome leaders and researchers from member universities within the UNESCO UNITWIN network, including: Korea National Open University, Hanoi Open University, Tribhuvan Open University (Nepal), Open University of Nepal, Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and Malaysia Open University.

The UNESCO UNITWIN Project is one of Ho Chi Minh City Open University’s international cooperation initiatives, aiming to establish a global network connecting universities worldwide to promote training, research, and the development of UNESCO programs in the fields of gender, media, and information technology.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, President of the university, shared that as the only university in the southern region of Vietnam implementing open education and promoting online distance learning, the university is deeply honored to become a member of projects within the UNESCO UNITWIN network. He expressed hope that this event would create opportunities for member universities to meet, discuss, and exchange knowledge in the fields of open education and distance learning, especially regarding the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

Within the framework of the program, six representatives from member universities of the UNESCO UNITWIN network shared and updated the latest research findings during in-depth discussion sessions. These sessions focused on prevailing trends in digital education, the importance of applying artificial intelligence (AI), and the close cooperation among educational institutions to jointly seize opportunities and address challenges in distance learning, meeting the demands of the Industry 4.0 era, and international integration.
