Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Gyeongsang National University (South Korea) signed a Memorandum of Understanding

On April 22, 2025, at Room 704, Ho Hao Hon Campus, Ho Chi Minh City Open University held a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement with Gyeongsang National University, South Korea. This event serves as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, thereby expanding educational and development opportunities for both Vietnamese and Korean students, particularly those majoring in Korean Language Studies.

Overview of the event

The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President of Ho Chi Minh City Open University; Mr. Kweon Jin-Hwe – President of Gyeongsang National University; along with leaders and staff from both institutions.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha, President of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, stated:  “Ho Chi Minh City Open University is a public, multi-disciplinary, application-oriented university committed to delivering high-quality education. In addition to its full-time academic programs, the University has also developed distance learning formats to meet the diverse learning needs of students. At the same time, we place great emphasis on promoting international cooperation through student and faculty exchange programs between Vietnam and other countries. With extensive experience in partnering with universities worldwide, the University hopes to expand collaborative models in the field of Korean Language Studies through student and faculty exchanges and the implementation of the scholarship initiative.”

Introducing Gyeongsang National University, Mr. Kweon Jin-Hwe – President of the University, stated:  “Gyeongsang National University, established in 1910, is one of the national universities under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea. With a strong focus on international development, the University places great emphasis on attracting and nurturing high-quality human resources worldwide. We warmly welcome Vietnamese students and are committed to supporting them through comprehensive policies that facilitate their integration and broaden their opportunities for growth in Korea”.

At the signing ceremony, both institutions discussed and reached consensus on key areas of cooperation, including the implementation of joint training programs following the 2+2 and 3+1 models, as well as plans to promote student and faculty exchange activities soon. These initiatives aim to provide extensive opportunities for learning, research, and holistic development for faculty members and students from both universities, particularly in the field of Korean Language Studies.

As part of the signing ceremony, Gyeongsang National University organized an exchange session to introduce its 2+2 student exchange program, in which students complete the first two years at Ho Chi Minh City Open University and the remaining two years at Gyeongsang National University. Additionally, detailed information on valuable scholarship opportunities for international students was shared. The proactive engagement and enthusiasm of the students contributed to a vibrant and productive exchange, promising meaningful academic connections between the students of both institutions in the future.
