Ho Chi Minh City Open University organises Career Seminar: The relationship between scientific research orientation and learners’ career development

On the morning of August 28th, 2025, at Hall 602, Vo Van Tan Campus, Ho Chi Minh City Open University organised a career-oriented seminar themed: “The Relationship between scientific research orientation and learners’ career development orientation.” The event was designed to provide students with additional knowledge and practical perspectives, as well as to deepen their understanding of the connection between scientific research and shaping future career paths.

Overview of the event

The seminar welcomed Prof. Dr. Nguyen Nhat Nguyen – University of Rouen Normandy (France); Mr. Tran Van Tri, MSc – Deputy Head of the Office of Student Affairs and Communications, Ho Chi Minh City Open University; together with a large number of students from various faculties and disciplines.

Sharing at the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Nhat Nguyen emphasised that scientific research is not only an academic activity but also plays a crucial role in orienting learners’ career development. Through research, students cultivate critical thinking, problem-posing, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think independently – qualities highly valued in today’s labour market.

He noted: “Scientific research, regardless of the field, helps learners explore themselves, clearly identify their competencies, strengths, and limitations, thereby establishing a foundation to select and adjust career orientation appropriately. At the same time, applying research outcomes to personal development enhances individual value. Published scientific works and articles not only bring recognition from experts and society but also contribute to building credibility, forming networks, and opening up diverse opportunities for future growth. This is the strong link between learning, research, and career pathways.”

Beyond the main presentation, the seminar became lively with an interactive Q&A session between students and the speaker. Many questions were raised on practical issues such as: how to start a research topic aligned with one’s career orientation, how to manage negative emotions when facing challenges and pressures during research, how to turn research results into a competitive advantage in job applications, how to handle disagreements with research partners, and the potential applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in research activities.

Students actively engaged with questions during the event

The seminar concluded in a vibrant, enthusiastic atmosphere, leaving a strong impression on the participating students. It was considered a meaningful activity that helped shape mindsets and inspire learners on their journey to pursue knowledge and build future careers.
