Ho Chi Minh City Open University welcomes the delegation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City

On the morning of May 7, 2025, at the Traditional Room, Vo Van Tan Campus, Ho Chi Minh City Open University had the honour of welcoming a delegation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City for a visit and working session. This event marks a significant milestone in fostering the bilateral friendship between Vietnam and South Korea, especially in education, while also opening up numerous opportunities for the university’s students to study, exchange, and experience Korean culture.

The event was honoured to welcome: From the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City: Mr. Shin Choong Il – Consul General; Ms. Yu Byung Ha – Consul; Mr. Ryu Jaehyu – Consul, along with their colleagues.

From Ho Chi Minh City Open University: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President; Dr. Le Thai Thuong Quan – Dean of the Department of Cooperation and Scientific Management; Dr. Senior Lecturer Nguyen Thuy Nga – Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Dr. Tran Minh Quy, Dean of the Korean Language Department, along with lecturers and a large number of Korean language students.

Speaking at the program, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – Rector of Ho Chi Minh City Open University emphasised that the University constantly strives to promote educational internationalisation and expand its network of international partners to create the best conditions for students’ comprehensive development. Especially for Korean Language students, in recent times, the University has signed cooperation agreements with many Korean universities, collaborating to implement and develop 3+1 and 2+1 joint training programs; concurrently strengthening connections with Korean enterprises to provide students with opportunities for internships, practical work experience, and access to Korean culture.

Mr. Shin Choong Il – Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City stated, “Thanks to continuously improving training quality and reasonable living costs, Vietnam has become an ideal study abroad destination, attracting the interest of many international students, including Korean students. In the future, to facilitate Korean students coming to study in Vietnam, we anticipate close cooperation from Vietnamese universities, especially Ho Chi Minh City Open University, to jointly develop attractive study programs, establish sustainable cultural bridges, and strongly promote Vietnam’s image to the Korean student community”.

He also shared his intention to introduce and create opportunities for Korean lecturers to teach at the University, hoping to play a significant role in the development of the Korean Linguistics Department in Vietnam.

During the meeting, students also had the opportunity to directly interact and discuss practical topics with the delegation from the Korean Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. These discussions included the recruitment criteria of Korean businesses, essential skills for effective work in a multicultural environment, and career opportunities for students in the current context of increasingly deep international integration.
