Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Seoul University of Foreign Studies (SUFS)

On the morning of April 3, 2025, Ho Chi Minh City Open University held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Seoul University of Foreign Studies (SUFS) at Ho Hao Hon Campus. This agreement is part of the university’s sustainable education development strategy, aiming to expand partnerships to serve its application-oriented training mission and student support goals.

Overview of the Event

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Dr. Le Thai Thuong Quan – Head of the Office of Cooperation and Science Management, and M.A. Bui Đo Cong Thanh – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

From Seoul University of Foreign Studies, the delegation included Dr. Lee Jung Sook – Head of the Vietnamese-Korean Translation and Interpretation Department, Mr. Ye Soung Ho – Head of the International Cooperation Office, and Ms. Lee Seo-hyeon – Head of Administration.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha emphasized the importance of international cooperation in improving education quality and introduced the university’s training scale of over 30,000 students in both full-time and distance learning programs.

With our experience in collaborating with many international universities, we aim to expand cooperation in the Korean Language major, including student and faculty exchange, online teaching, and internship support in Korea,” shared Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha.

Since its establishment in 2003, Seoul University of Foreign Studies has achieved notable successes. As a graduate-level institution modeled after European urban universities, SUFS has affirmed its reputation as a modern and professional talent-training organization specializing in translation and interpretation.

On behalf of SUFS, Mr. Ye Soung Ho – Head of the International Cooperation Office – expressed his honor in collaborating with Ho Chi Minh City Open University. He highlighted SUFS’s strength in advanced interpretation training, supported by a team of top Korean experts.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea, SUFS believes that this cooperation will open up many development opportunities and contribute to high-quality human resource training.

During the ceremony, both parties discussed several areas of cooperation, including: Student Exchange Programs: Students from both universities can participate in study programs, cultural exchanges, and internships; Faculty Exchange: Faculty members will engage in teaching, seminars, and workshops to enhance professional expertise and share teaching experiences; Online Teaching Collaboration: The development of Korean language programs for Vietnamese learners and Vietnamese language programs for Korean learners.

As part of its international partnership expansion strategy, Ho Chi Minh City Open University has signed agreements with several prestigious Korean institutions such as Kangwon National University, Gyeongsang National University, Pusan National University, and Sungkyunkwan University, among others.

The signing with SUFS not only paves the way for robust development opportunities for both students and faculty of the two institutions but also contributes to fostering educational cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea, working toward an open and internationally integrated education system.
