Students from the Japanese Faculty – Ho Chi Minh City Open University have defeated their toughest rivals from various Southern universities to win the Japanese debating competition.
The showcase took place in Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities on March 3rd, 2018. Mr. Isao Iijima – Special Advisor to the Japanese cabinet; Mr. Katsuro Nagai – Economic envoy at the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam; Mr. Hosaya Kazunori – Deputy Consul-General of Japanese in Ho Chi Minh City, other guests, representatives and hundreds of university students who love the Japanese language were presented in this special event.
The motion is about traffic, which is both interesting and very thought-provoking. Ten best performers have defeated 53 other candidates in the first round organized in January to get a place in the showcase.
Ms. Dao Thi Bich Sieng from the Japanese Faculty – Ho Chi Minh City Open University won the first prize with her wonderful presentation about the topic discussing “The negative effects of traffic incidents”. She said, “This competition offers me the opportunity to be more confident” and was very grateful to her teachers and senior students who gave her every support she needed during the competition.
This competition is indeed a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy the Japanese language and culture and at the same time, want to have more practice in thinking critically and fully expressing their thoughts. What Sieng has done constitutes a pride of her university. She sets a very good example as a very confident and talented Open University student.
