In the context of comprehensive regional integration, international student exchange is an opportunity for students to experience the reality, improve their foreign language skills and better understand other countries’ cultures. On April 24-27, 2019, a delegation of students from Ho Chi Minh City Open University (OU) visited and exchanged with students of Muhammadiyah University Malang, Indonesia (UMM). As part of the program, students were allowed to participate in Indonesian cultural exchanges and seminars through international seminars, visit UMM University, experience Indonesian traditional culture, meet leaders and exchange with students of the University.
On the morning of April 25, at the Muhammadiyah Malang University Hall (Indonesia), the Faculty of Indonesian Education - Language - Literature (Muhammadiyah Malang University) collaborated with the Faculty of Sociology – Social Work – Southeast Asian Studies) organized International Seminar "Strengthening the Existence of Indonesia Language Literature as Nation Identity through Education". The seminar was attended by PhD. Ribut Wahya Eriyanti - Dean of Faculty of Education - Indonesian Language - Literature, PhD. Doroe Iswatiningsih - Head of Culture Department, Arif Budi Wurianto PhD.- Head of BIPA (Indonesian Language Teaching Center for Foreigners), PhD. Ly Quyet Tien - Head of Southeast Asian Studies Subject, Ho Chi Minh City Open University and international students in Indonesia and students of Ho Chi Minh City Open University and students of Muhammadiyah Malang University.
Besides, students also visited Muhammadiyah University campus, met and talked with BIPA Manager (Indonesian Language Teaching Center for Foreigners). Thereby, students of Ho Chi Minh City Open University understood more about the Indonesian language teaching program for foreigners, the associated and student exchange programs between UMM and other countries. In the annual student exchange program at UMM, students at Ho Chi Minh City Open University always obtain student exchange scholarships here. At the end of the exchange, the delegation of students also experienced traditional music of Indonesia, visited the display and shopping area of batik fabrics - traditional and typical fabrics in Indonesian culture.
The tour is a bridge between students of Ho Chi Minh City Open University (OU) and students of Muhammadiyah Malang University. This is an opportunity for students to experience Indonesian culture, enhance international exchange capabilities, and improve English and Indonesian. In the future, the international student exchange activities of Ho Chi Minh City Open University (OU) will be strengthened and expanded, especially for foreign language and cultural sectors.
