On May 23, 2020, at 8:00am, the OpenTESOL Conference 2020 with the theme: Language Education for Global Competence: Finding Authentic Voices and Embracing Meaningful Practices was held at Hall 202 of Ho Hao Hon Campus. Since 2016, the OpenTESOL has been upgraded to International Conference and started publishing conference proceedings. Until now, the 8th OpenTESOL Conference has become a great opportunity for lecturers, teachers, experts as well as domestic and foreign researchers to share, cultivate and develop their specialisation.
The webinar was conducted online with keynote and featured sessions and parallel sessions in language teaching and research. Simultaneously, 50 presentation videos of speakers and experts in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Chinese and Japanese were posted on the conference’s website opentesol.ou.edu.vn/2020conference. This year's webinar attracted more than 750 participants including scientists, managers, researchers, lecturers, TESOL and Applied Linguistics graduate students along with university students majoring in English Pedagogy of more than 500 universities, educational and training institutions from over 30 countries. The 8th OpenTESOL organizers have also selected over 30 outstanding reports from Vietnamese and international researchers, lecturers such as Sweden, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, United Kingdom,... to be published in the proceedings..
While social distancing is still a mandatory requirement in some countries around the world and international flights have not yet been reopened in Vietnam, the OpenTESOL Online Conference 2020 was still carefully and safely prepared with the aim of creating an academic exchange session as well as keeping scientists, researchers, lecturers and teachers updated on the latest knowledge in the field of language teaching.
