According to the first WEBOMETRICS Ranking result of 2021, Ho Chi Minh City Open University ranks 16^th in Viet Nam, 149^th in Southeast Asia and 1635^th in Asia.

The ranking started in 2004 with the original aim of improving website quality as well as information transparency and knowledge sharing, thereby, contributing to improve the quality of the University.

Webometrics is an automated ranking that assesses the digitalization and influence of a higher education institution’s academic resources based on the indicators of the impact of its website systems and online information (Visibility), openness of its academic resources on Google Scholar (Openness) and scientific citations on the Scopus database (Excellence).

During the 1/2021 ranking period, Webometrics had a change in ranking method compared to the previous period (July 2020). Specifically, the criterion "Number of digital resources" (Presence) has been removed in the ranking method of this period and the weight of the "Excellence" criterion is increased by 5% compared to the previous ranking period (from 35% the period on July 2020 to 40% in the period of January 2021).

Currently, Webometrics has ranked over 31,000 institutes along with universities varies from over 200 countries and regions in accordance with information not only from website but also from scientific research and have a great effect on community generally./.
