Economic Science Conference 2022 – “Green growth, sustainable development, financial and human capital promotion to foster economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic”

The Conference with the theme of "Green growth, sustainable development, financial and human capital promotion to foster economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic″ attracted more than 200 delegates including scientists, experts, lecturers and students in the fields of economics, tourism, business administration, and banking from universities, institutes, centers and research departments in Ho Chi Minh City and provinces across the country. This event was co-organized by Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Youth Science and Technology Development Center and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology on the morning of April 8, 2022 at campus 35-37 Ho Hao Hon, Ho Chi Minh City Open University.

 

With a variety of suggested topics from the Organizing Committee such as: Opportunities, challenges and solutions to economic recovery and development in the post-COVID-19 pandemic; Opportunities, challenges and solutions to foster Vietnam's banking and finance industry’s adaptation  and International integration in the post-COVID-19 pandemic; Experiences and economic development strategies, Regional and International investment attraction in the post-COVID-19 pandemic; Social development management in Ho Chi Minh City in the post-COVID-19 pandemic; Green economic development; Green growth model; Developing financial markets and resources; Sources of growth; Economic growth and income inequality; Development model in the context of promoting international integration; Sustainable economic development; Human capital development; Developing the digital economy; Enhance competitiveness in the globalization context; Promote the development of small and medium-sized enterprises; Entrepreneurship in the emerging markets; Solutions to reshape businesses for sustainable development; Social issues as poverty, inequality, income convergence, disadvantaged groups, environmental pollution, etc. The workshop received 80 scientific articles by 195 authors from 47 institutions nationally and internationally. And 21 topics were approved to be presented at the conference…”

 

In his opening keynote, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha - President of the University remarked, “Since mass gathering is restricted due to Covid-19, the program has been hosted both in person and online, therefore, all interested lecturers and students can freely access. HCMCOU is always highly evaluated as one of the Universities with a strong student scientific research movement, in the previous academic year, there were more than 500 research projects from lecturers and students that have been published.

 

At the program, Dr. Vo Hong Duc from Research Center in Business, Economics, and Resources (CBER) of Ho Chi Minh City Open University and UWA Business School, The University of Western Australia had a report on Sustainable Economic Development in Vietnam: From the perspectives of Energy Practices and Renewable Energy Policy.

 

This was followed by the presentation session from various authors in the subcommittees; Evaluation Subcommittees included the Economic Development Subcommittee, the Behavioral Research Subcommittee and the Governance and Management Subcommittee. Discussion on issues in the post-Covid-19 pandemic related to economics, finance, governance, e-commerce and digital economy in line with orientations of green growth, sustainable development, financial and human capital development; Opportunities, challenges and solutions to foster economic recovery and development; Experiences and economic development strategies, Regional and International investment attraction; Social development management in Ho Chi Minh City; Green economic development; Green growth model.

 

The program concluded with an award ceremony for outstanding research topics, including: 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 6 consolation prizes from the three subcommittees. Besides, there were also 3 most voted prizes for posters on social media . In which, Ho Chi Minh City Open University won First prize of "The asymmetric effects of institutional quality on financial inclusion" scientific paper, Third prize of "The impact of financial deepening on income distribution: a comparison of indicators” and the consolation prize belonged to “The Effects of Climate Change on the income of Vietnamese farmers”.

 

This ceremony offered an unparalleled opportunity for young scientists to discuss and exchange scientific research in fields related to economy, sustainable development and economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. All authors/research groups whose papers had   been presented at the Conference were granted a certificate of submission by the Organizing Committee; High-quality research papers which is evaluated by the Scientific Council, will be published in the Scientific Conference Proceedings; The winning articles at the Conference will be supported in peer-review section and given priority in publishing in the Ho Chi Minh City Open University Journal Of Science.
