Ho Chi Minh City Open University Hosts Closing Ceremony for the 2023–2024 Vietnamese Language Course for Foreign Learners

On the afternoon of November 19, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City Open University held the Closing Ceremony for the 2023–2024 Vietnamese Language Course for foreign learners. The event took place in the Tradition Room at the university's campus located at 97 Võ Văn Tần Street, District 3.

The ceremony aimed to acknowledge the hard work and achievements of international learners who persevered through challenges to acquire Vietnamese language and cultural knowledge.

The event was attended by: Dr. Nguyễn Thúy Nga – Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; M.A. Trần Lê Trọng Phúc – Deputy Head of the Training Management Department; M.A. Trần Văn Trí – Deputy Head and Acting Head of the Student Affairs and Communication Department; M.A. Nguyễn Châu Bích Tuyền – Homeroom teacher of classes VI2302 and VI2303, and other faculty members and staff, as well as the foreign learners.

A Memorable Journey Rewound

The ceremony began with a short, heartfelt film reflecting the learners’ journey. The video not only captured lively classroom moments but also showcased the efforts of international learners to improve their Vietnamese and engage in extracurricular activities, such as the Mid-autumn festival, ASEAN Cultural Exchange Day, city tours, and so on. These activities helped them gradually adapt to their new learning environment. The footage highlighted the strong bonds formed between learners from various countries, along with the dedicated support of their Vietnamese teachers.

The teachers and international learners reflected on the memorable learning journey.

Dr. Nguyễn Thúy Nga – Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages., expressed her pride in the learners’ accomplishments, emphasizing that their success was a testament to their hard work and perseverance, as well as the unwavering support of the faculty in helping them overcome language and cultural barriers.

On behalf of the faculty, Ms. Nguyễn Lan Duyên – Specialist of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, presented the course summary report. Of the 32 participants, 29 achieved Vietnamese proficiency equivalent to the B2 level. This remarkable result reflects the learners’ relentless efforts in both curriculum time and extra tutoring sessions. Having completed the Vietnamese language course with impressive results, the learners are now prepared to pursue specialized fields such as business administration, information technology, tourism, or biotechnology at Ho Chi Minh City Open University. This milestone marks the beginning of a new academic journey, offering opportunities to expand their knowledge, build careers, and immerse themselves further in Vietnamese culture.

Ms. Nguyễn Châu Bích Tuyền, the homeroom teacher, shared her experiences supporting the learners and expressed her hope to continue guiding them in their future studies.

Representing the course instructors, M.A. Huỳnh Phượng Lynh shared her pride, saying: “I am deeply moved and proud to witness your learning journey. Learning Vietnamese is a significant challenge, but you have overcome it and made incredible progress. I hope the language skills and cultural values you have gained will motivate your future success. Congratulations and best wishes!”

Yaovapha Phimmasak, a student from Laos, shared: “I feel deeply grateful to have an opportunity to learn and evolve myself at Ho Chi Minh City Open University. Beyond the classroom, I had the chance to join extracurricular programs with Vietnamese learners and was guided and supported by the teachers and staff. These experiences have helped me better understand the country I am now living in. I want to express my gratitude to the teachers, seniors, and friends at the university for supporting me and making my life here easier."

The international learners were presented with certificates and gifts by the faculty.

Ho Chi Minh City Open University hopes that the knowledge and skills gained through the Vietnamese language course will empower learners to embark on their academic journey in Vietnam confidently. The university remains committed to supporting them and fostering their future success.
