A warm meeting between Cambodian learners from Ho Chi Minh City Open University and the Consulate General of Cambodia.
On the morning of November 7, to commemorate the 71st Independence Day of Cambodia (November 9, 1952 – November 9, 2024), a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City Open University, led by Dr. Le Nguyen Quoc Khang – Vice President, visited the Consulate General of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City. The delegation also included leaders of various departments and Cambodian learners studying at the university.
This event was an important occasion to express respect and strengthen the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia. It also provided Cambodian learners at Ho Chi Minh City Open University with an opportunity to connect and share their academic experiences, thereby fostering relationships and development within the university’s diverse international learner community.
On behalf of Ho Chi Minh Open University, Dr. Le Nguyen Quoc Khang – Vice President, extended congratulations on the remarkable achievements Cambodia has attained in recent years. He also expressed great delight at the development of the “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability” between Vietnam and Cambodia, particularly in the field of education, with specific emphasis on the collaboration between Ho Chi Minh City Open University and other universities.

In an effort to support and connect international learners, Mr. Tran Van Tri, Deputy Head of the Student Affairs and Communication Department, shared: “With the mission of open education, creating equal opportunities for everyone to access higher education, Ho Chi Minh City Open University always pays special attention to learners, especially international learners. Specifically, the University has awarded numerous full tuition scholarships for students enrolled in the regular undergraduate program, alongside many other scholarship policies, living allowances, and various other support initiatives in the academic year 2023-2024 . It is expected that in the academic year 2024-2025, the University will offer an additional 20 scholarships for living expenses and full tuition coverage for international learners, contributing to the development of a multicultural learner community and promoting educational cooperation between the two countries.”
Kun Ratanak, a student from Cambodia, expressed: “I am very grateful for all the help that I have received from Vietnamese students, the support from Ho Chi Minh City Open University and the Cambodian Consulate. They have created the best conditions for us to study and live in Vietnam. I will strive to study well and actively participate in extracurricular activities at the university to gain more memories and experiences for myself.”

The Consul of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Bun Khunny, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ho Chi Minh City Open University for taking time to celebrate Cambodia’s National Day. He also conveyed his appreciation to the Leader of the University for their ongoing support, dedication, and efforts in creating favorable learning conditions for Cambodian learners, helping them adapt more easily to life in Vietnam.

He also affirmed his commitment to actively participating in cultural exchange activities organized by Ho Chi Minh City Open University, aiming to strengthen ties and further enhance the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

As part of the “Cultural Journey 2024” series, with the joyful spirit of celebrating the 71st Independence Day of Cambodia, the OU Help to Be Helped Club organized a meaningful cake-decorating activity on the evening of November 8. The event brought together Vietnamese students and learners from Cambodia and Laos, collaborating to create beautifully decorated and colorful cakes in commemoration of this significant occasion.

In addition to the cake-decorating activity, the club also organized mini-games and warm conversations with international learners. This provided an opportunity for club members to connect, interact, and gain a deeper understanding of one another.
The series of events ended, leaving a lasting impression on Cambodian students in particular and the international learner community at Ho Chi Minh Open University as a whole. These activities not only allowed participants to meet and interact but also helped Vietnamese and international learners gain a better understanding of each other. This fosters opportunities for future collaboration in academics, research, and community projects.
Furthermore, the events can be seen as evidence of the University’s dedication and support for international learners.
