On November 6, 2024, the QS organization announced the rankings of the best universities in Asia for 2025. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City Open University proudly achieved a ranking among the top 119 universities in Southeast Asia and the 701–750 among leading universities in Asia.
This achievement is not only a source of pride for the university but also affirms its position on the regional education map.
The QS Asia University Rankings is one of the most prestigious evaluation systems in the world, using nine rigorous criteria. Academic reputation carries the highest weight (30%), followed by citations (20%). Other criteria include institutional reputation, faculty/student ratio, international outlook, international research network, graduate outcomes, and sustainability, which account for about 5–15%.
Innovations in teaching methods and international integration strategies
In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City Open University has made significant improvements in its teaching and research strategies. To connect people through the value of knowledge, the university continuously enhances the quality of education across bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. It has actively promoted the application of information technology in teaching, training management, and student support. Currently, 100% of courses at the university utilize the LMS (Learning Management System), contributing to the development of a learning society and enhancing learners’ knowledge and career competencies through flexible, convenient, and effective methods.
The university is also proud to be a member of several international organizations contributing positively to society, such as the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE); the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU); the SEAMEO Regional Center for Distance Education (SEAMEO-CED); the ASEAN University Network (AUN); and Quality Matters (QM).
Strengthening partnerships with international universities and advancing scientific research have enabled the university to improve its academic quality and attract a large number of international students. In recent years, the university has welcomed nearly 200 learners at various levels from countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and France. These efforts have also contributed to the improvement of the university's rankings in prestigious evaluations.
Affirming regional standing and striving for global goals
With its proud achievements in the Asian rankings, Ho Chi Minh City Open University has demonstrated its continuous efforts and commitment to improving education quality both nationally and internationally. By 2024, the university has had 36 programs accredited under various standards, specifically: 13 programs certified for meeting European FIBAA quality standards; 4 programs certified by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA); and 19 programs certified by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
In addition, the university has expanded its international cooperation and built networks with global partners, providing students and faculty with diverse learning and research opportunities. These collaborations have also significantly enhanced the university’s prestige and reputation.
With an enrollment scale of over 40,000 learners across various levels and programs, Ho Chi Minh City Open University is committed to continuous development, improvement of its curricula, and expansion of international collaborations. It aims to offer increasingly better learning and research opportunities for its learners, thereby contributing positively to the overall development of society.
