Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc Visits And Congratulates Ho Chi Minh City Open University On Vietnam Teachers’ Day (November 20)

On November 16, 2024, in Room 704, at Ho Hao Hon Campus, Ho Chi Minh City Open University was honored to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc – Deputy Minister of Education and Training, along with the delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), visited and extended their congratulations to the university's faculty and staff on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 – November 20, 2024). 

 

Attending the meeting, on behalf of Ho Chi Minh City Open University were: Dr. Do Sa Ky – Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President; Dr. Le Xuan Truong – Vice President; Dr. Le Nguyen Quoc Khang – Vice President, along with leaders of the university's departments.

 

Overview of the ceremony.

 

During the visit, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President of the University, shared with Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc and the delegation about the development of the University. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City Open University is currently offering 32 standard programs, 12 advanced  programs, and 18 online programs. It is one of the first universities in the country to provide online bachelor's degree programs.

 

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha - President of the university, shared the university's current development status.

 

In addition, the University offers 12 master's programs and 8 doctoral programs. The University's enrollment efforts have also achieved positive results year after year, with 36 training programs accredited according to various international and national standards. Furthermore, the University places special emphasis on student scientific research. Over the past year, more than 350 student research projects have been registered, demonstrating the strong development and creative potential of the University's students.

 

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc extended his wishes for health, success, and continued passion for the teaching profession to all the educators at the University. In addition, the Deputy Minister encouraged the faculty to continue their contributions to the education sector in Vietnam, following a discussion on the University's robust development in digital transformation in education.

 

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc highly appreciated the achievements that Ho Chi Minh City Open University has attained in recent times, such as ranking 119th in Southeast Asia and 701-750 among the top universities in Asia according to the QS Asia University Rankings, 1,201-1,500 globally, and top 5 in Vietnam according to the Times Higher Education 2025 rankings. Additionally, many of the University's training programs have met the accreditation standards of MOET and FIBAA.

 

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc, "The tasks carried out by the University are executed very well and methodically, demonstrating the institution's efforts and commitment to enhancing the quality of education."

 

In addition, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President of the University, shared that the University is continuing to leverage its strengths and address its weaknesses, particularly in terms of infrastructure, by developing a branch of the University in Dong Nai. At the same time, the University is further expanding its domestic and international educational collaborations – emphasizing the importance of continuing to strengthen international cooperation activities and scaling up training programs. 

 

Alongside this, the University's Party Committee and Board of Directors affirmed their commitment to working closely with the leadership team and staff to uphold traditions, innovate, improve the quality of education, and strive tirelessly to achieve even greater success in the mission of nurturing future generations.
