AN INTRODUCTION TO THE FACULTY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The Faculty of Foreign Languages (FFL), founded in 1990, is one of the first three faculties of HCMCOU providing “open learning” and applying new teaching methods for learners. Its mission is to improve learners’ knowledge and practical skills and to enhance learners’ potential strengths in educational goals. FFL makes a great effort to establish a positive learning environment and build a good rapport between learners and lecturers in order to help learners to attain the success of language learning and meet the requirements of the society in the new age.

The Faculty offers the training programs for 4 majors: English language, Chinese language, Japanese language, Korean language and Foreign Languages for non-language major students for the whole university. The current number of enrolled students for language majors is around 2,000.

HCMCOU FFL has contributed to the country’s development by training high-quality human resources, with an emphasis on the active learning, flexibility, creativity, openness,  honesty and community engagement.

Currently, the Faculty has a Dean, who is a Ph.D degree holder, and 4 Division Heads (1 with a Ph.D degree and 3 with a Master’s degree) in charge of the majors of Teaching Methodology, Translation - Interpretation, Business English, and Non-Major Foreign Languages. The Faculty currently has 16 doctorate and 40 master degree holders. All lecturers of the FFL graduated from prestigious national and international universities.

FFL was honored to receive MOET's Emulation Flag 2020, and many other Certificates of Merit from Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the MOET in the last ten years for its outstanding achievements in education and training.

The OpenTESOL International Conference series, established in 2012, was one of the remarks of FFL to promote professional knowledge, share information, and facilitate cross-cultural understanding in ELT in the region. Due to the Covid 19 pandamic the 8th and 9th Conferences were switched to online mode and attracted many attendees from all over the world featured with prestigious keynote speakers in the field of TESOL and English discipline.
