INTRODUCTION FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

Civil Engineering has been central to HCMC Open University’s mission since its founding. The Faculty of Civil Engineering was in operation at the university’s opening in 1993. After 23-year development, we have 2700 undergraduate student (full-time students and part-time students) and 120 graduate student. Both research and teaching in our faculty have a regional reach. The faculty is currently working in An Giang, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Kien Giang, Quy Nhon, Ben Tre, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh and Dong Thap, among other provines.

Our teaching and research fall into three broad areas:

  • The Built Environment – focusing on creating a sustainable built environment and including programs in Structural Engineering and Geomechanics, Architectural Design, and Sustainable Design and Construction.
  • The Water Environment – focusing on managing the water environment for the sustainable human benefit and developing environmental policies that promote ecosystem heath and human safety, and including programs in Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology, and Environmental Engineering and Science.
  • Project Management- offering a comprehensive review of project management such as methodology, tool sets and documentation, and the project life cycle including analysis, planning, design, and evaluation. The course also includes a project management case study.

The relationships among these three domains inform the direction of our curriculum. Some of the intersections are depicted here; others will emerge as we continue our research.
