Ho Chi Minh City Open University (HOU) Team excels at the Annual VAFosT Young Achievers’ Safe Food Competition 2018

Under the framework of the International Exhibition and Conference FI Vietnam 2018, the “YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SAFE FOOD COMPETITION” is organized by Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology (VAFoST) in partnership with UBM, and with the support of Saigon Technology University. This competition aims to provide opportunities for Food Science & Technology students from universities, colleges and vocational schools in Vietnam and other ASEAN countries to create new food products from innovative usage of local raw materials and safe food ingredients that will cater to the emerging needs of consumers in ASEAN’s fast growing economies.

 

The competition participants are undergraduate students from universities and colleges with Food Science and Technology programs in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.

This year’s competition theme is “Safe, nutritious and diverse foods for fast growing economies in ASEAN”. Participants are encouraged to create new food products (e.g. new formulation, new product formats, new packaging) that has commercial and technical feasibility. 

 

The product “Plant Based Condensed Milk with Stevia” by students from Faculty of Biotechnology, HOU: Nguyen Tien Hoang, Nguyen Le Thanh Truc, Truong Trong Hieu and Phan Do Tan Anh, instructed by Mr. Ta Dang Khoa (lecturer of Faculty of Biotechnology, HOU), entirely convinced the domestic and foreign judges to win the 1st prize of the competition. The winner team will receive $1000 from UBM, commendation and commemoration. Besides, they will become representative team and get sponsorship from UBM to continue taking part in the competition in Indonesia in October 2018.
