Ho Chi Minh City Open University’s Journal of Science ranked 13th, 36th, 40th, 43rd, 54th, 76th in English Specialized Journals, including Economics - Business Administration; Engineering - Technology; Social Science; Vietnamese Specialized Journals, including Social Science; Engineering and Technology, respectively.
On the occasion of Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18, 2021), a group of Vietnamese scientists including Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc (Ha Noi National University) publicize the ranking of influential indicators of more 80 Vietnam scientific journals, calculated through citation number in 2020 of the published journals for 5 years (2015- 2019). This is the first time of evaluation according to influential indicators (Impact factor – IF) and indicator H-index in accordance with international regulation.
Ho Chi Minh City Open University has 06 specialized scientific journals in the ranking of influential indicators of more than 80 scientific journals in Vietnam. According to Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc, more than 80 journals in shortlist reviewed from more than 400 journals in the list of journals scored from scientific works of the State Professor’s Council and more 600 scientific journals in Vietnam.

This result was published by Vietnam Citation Gateway system of Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc, Dr. Vo Dinh Hieu and PhD student Phan Hai from Vietnam National University every 2 years, on the celebration of Vietnam Science and Technology Day (18th May). This is the first time of evaluation according to influential indicators (Impact factor – IF) and indicator H-index in accordance with international regulation.
The influential indicator was calculated by the sum of citations in 2020 of the published journals in five years (2015 – 2019), divided by the total number of published journals (2015 – 2019).
Out of 83 journals which were evaluated and considered incorporating into Vcgate, there were 72 journals which already had influential indicators, 42 journals had IF > 0.1; 12 journals with IF > 0.5 and 6 journals with IF > 1.0. Ho Chi Minh City Open University’s Scientific Journal was officially granted of publishing by the Ministry of Culture and Information, now called the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) under the MIC printing press license No. 169/GP-BVHTT on 15th November, 2006. Before 2020, among Ho Chi Minh City Open University’s Scientific Journal publications, there are 3 comprehensive issues comprised all 3 majors: Economics and Business Administration, Engineering and Technology, Social Science. Every publication includes headings as follows: Scientific publications, Science discussion forum, Scientific Information and all are written in Vietnamese which is not in line with the requirements of participating in many international data systems.
On January 7, 2021, Bureau of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, Ministry of Information and Communications issued license No. 03/GP-TTĐT to set up a comprehensive website for Ho Chi Minh City Open University Scientific Journal. Pursuant to Proposal No. 34 / TTKHCN-ISSN dated December 18, 2020, The National Agency for Science & Technology Information - Ministry of Science and Technology has also granted 6 international standard codes to Ho Chi Minh City Open University Scientific Journal for multi-period printed publications (print-ISSN) and 6 international standard codes for multi-period online publications (e-ISSN) according to Proposal No. 01 / TTKHCN-ISSN dated January 18 / 2021. Accordingly, there are 6 separate specialized journals (specialized pages) in English and Vietnamese, meeting the requirement of step by step bringing a number of specialized journals into the international data system, in particular:
