On July 27, 2021, Cybermetrics Labs (under the Spanish National Research Council) announced the 2^nd Webometrics ranking result of year 2021. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City Open University ranked 13^th (moved up 3 places) among 179 Universities in Vietnam; ranked 121 (increase 28 ranks up) among 3.828 Universities in Southeast Asia.

Webometrics is an automatic ranking that assesses the digitalization and influence of a higher education institution’s academic resources based on the indicators of the impact of its website systems and online information (Impact), openness of its academic resources on Google Scholar (Openness) and scientific citations on the Scopus database (Excellence) of one higher education institute.

In this edition, Webometrics maintains the same ranking methodology as in January 2021. Specifically, the Impact criteria (influence level) has the highest weight (50%), followed by the Excellence criteria (40%) and the Openness (10%).
