The Student from Faculty of Information Technology won the first prize at the 2021 Ministerial-level Student Research Award.

On the morning of December 31, at Hanoi National University of Education, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) held a Closing and Awarding Ceremony of the Science and Technology for Young Lecturers and Students in Higher Education Institutions in 2021. The ceremony took place both the hybrid format featuring in-person and online participation, in which the Faculty of Information Technology - Ho Chi Minh City Open University was honored to receive 01 first prize in the field of Natural Science.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc congratulated young lecturers and students from Universities on achieving excellent results in study, scientific research and being awarded the prestigious prize today. Deputy Minister at the same time highly appreciated lecturers and higher education institutions that actively organized and guided students to conduct scientific research and achieved good results.

The Deputy Minister stated that the Award "Science and Technology for Young Lecturers and Students in Higher Education Institutions" has effectively become one of the biggest scientific playgrounds for young lecturers and students in universities. The works participating in the 2021 have primarily focused on research fields that directly serve the socio-economic development such as: New materials; Pharmacy; Agriculture; Socio-economic, etc. which shows great potential of young lecturers and students in scientific research.

In 2021, Although the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, there were more than 460 projects attended by students and 89 works by lecturers from 33 higher education institutions. After reviewing the validity, the number of student projects was 160, and the lecturers’ works was 71. Most of the rejected presentations did not meet the announced requirements or were applied in practice at least 1 year under the new regulations.

After 2 rounds of serious and objective consideration, the Organizer decided to award 49 works of young lecturers; in which 8 works won the first prize, 4 second prizes and 21 third prizes. 07 higher education institutions received the Certificate of Merit from Ministry of Education and Training for its impressive young lecturers’ research achievements in 2021 Award. There were 118 students’ topics awarded; including 6 first prizes; 21 second prizes; 39 Third Prize; and the rest is consolation prizes.

In the award category for students, the Faculty of Information Technology - Ho Chi Minh City Open University was honored to win the first prize with the topic " Some contributions to biometric image analysis of human ear images based on computer vision” by student Nguyen Quoc Huy with the guidance of Dr. Truong Hoang Vinh who is a lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology.

With this remarkable achievement, Faculty of Information Technology once again affirms the quality in training and guiding students to implement applied scientific research works and make great contributions to the community and society in line with the general orientation of the University.
