Ho Chi Minh City Open University Ranks High on Times Higher Education 2024 Impact Rankings

Ho Chi Minh City Open University (HCMCOU) continues to affirm its international position by being featured in the group of 1,001-1,500 top universities worldwide on the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024, announced on June 12, 2024.

In 2024, HCMCOU was included in the rankings for four sustainable development goals (SDG): SDG 4 - Quality Education; SDG 5 - Gender Equality; SDG 13 - Climate Action; SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals.

With the mission of providing open education, creating equality for everyone in accessing higher education through flexible, convenient, and effective methods, HCMCOU continuously strives to improve the quality of education to meet national and international standards.

In 2023, HCMCOU received a Certificate of Quality Accreditation of Educational Institutions (cycle 2) . Moreover, the university has achieved numerous prestigious national and international quality certifications: 16 undergraduate programs have been recognized as meeting MOET (Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam) and FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) quality standards; 5 master's programs have been recognized as meeting FIBAA quality standards. Notably, the employment rate of graduates after one year for doctoral programs reached 100%, for master's programs reached 98.05%, and for undergraduate programs reached 93.68%, thereby affirming the quality of the training programs and meeting the needs of the labor market.

Besides continuously improving the quality of training, the university always promotes gender equality among students through scholarships encouraging female students in technical fields, creating conditions for all students to develop comprehensively.

Over the years, the university has actively contributed to the community and society by strongly and effectively promoting activities and programs for climate action, such as: The Traditional Race for the Environment; Environment Day, etc.; Volunteering activities: Green Summer, Spring Volunteer, and many other activities not only within the university but also widely in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces in Vietnam. These efforts include training high-quality human resources in the environmental field, researching and developing innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change, and promoting beneficial community actions to protect the environment.

With the vision of becoming a multidisciplinary university, HCMCOU has been actively building a wide network of international partners across the globe. Currently, the university has signed cooperation agreements with over 573 universities, educational institutions, and research organizations from various countries worldwide, such as Belgium,France, Japan, etc. At the same time, HCMCOU is committed to continuing to develop programs and projects, enhancing multilateral cooperation, and connecting with international organizations and domestic partners to create innovative solutions and effective applications to contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

The sixth edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings attracted the participation of over 2,150 universities from 125 countries and territories, including 13 educational institutions from Vietnam. These rankings assess the contributions of universities to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, emphasizing the importance of multilateral cooperation to achieve these goals.

The current achievements of HCMCOU on THE 2024 rankings are not only an honor for the university but also a testament to the efforts and dedication of all students, faculty, and staff. This serves as a strong motivation for the university to continue developing and achieving even greater accomplishments in the future.
