More than 160 trees were planted at Long Binh Tan Campus

Ho Chi Minh City Open University organized the Tree Planting ceremony on the morning of June 9, 2024, at Long Binh Tan Campus, Dong Nai province, in accordance with Directive No. 629/BGDĐT-GDTrH from the Ministry of Education and Training. The program commemorated the 134th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2024), and also supported World Environment Day on June 5th and celebrated the 34th anniversary of the university's establishment (June 15, 1990 - June 15, 2024).

Participating the event, from Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, there were Mr. Dang Nguyen Xuan Trong from External Relations Department. From the Party Committee and Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City Open University, there were Dr. Do Sa Ky – Party Secretary, Chairman of the Council; Prof.Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President. Also present were members of the university's Executive Committee, the Student Union, leaders of various units, employees, representatives from District Youth Union of District 1 and Nha Be District Youth Union. Former Green Summer Volunteers, alumni, and 447 Green Summer Volunteers of 2024 were also in attendance.

During his speech at the ceremony, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha emphasized that tree planting not only upholds the cultural traditions of the nation but also plays a crucial role in disaster prevention, climate change mitigation, and enhancing environmental sustainability. He underscored the importance of raising awareness and responsibility among university staff, officials, and students in protecting and preserving the environment.

Ms. Pham Thi My Phung, a member of the Kon Tum team in the 2024 Green Summer Campaign, shared, "This program is meaningful not only in creating green spaces but also in participating in tree planting alongside teachers, former volunteers, alumni, and Green Summer Volunteers. It is an opportunity for students to build unity, community awareness, and social responsibility. Moreover, it allows each student to learn, experience, and contribute to environmental protection, thus developing life skills and maturity. I hope the university will organize more activities for students to continue learning and contributing to the community."

 

During the ceremony, teachers, former volunteers, alumni, and Green Summer Volunteers planted 160 trees including Lagerstroemia speciosa, Bombax ceiba, and Bauhinia variegata, contributing to the green landscape of Long Binh Tan Campus and the broader local area. This practical activity aimed to follow President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, while promoting the proactive spirit and voluntary commitment of youth in environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
