To celebrate the 34th anniversary of the University's establishment (June 15, 1990 - June 15, 2024) and to maintain and promote the movement following the President Ho Chi Minh, on the morning of June 30, 2024, at 97 Vo Van Tan Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City Open University organized the 28th expanded Traditional The Open Run with the theme "For a greener future".

Attending the event, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha - President; Dr. Le Nguyen Quoc Khang - Vice President, along with over 600 learners, alumni, staff of the University. In addition, there was enthusiastic participation from a large number of high school students from Marie Curie High School, Nguyen Thi Dieu High School, and officials from units in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, including the People's Committee of District 3 and the Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute, etc.

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha - President of the University, shared: “The Open Run of Ho Chi Minh City Open University is an opportunity for learners, alumni, and staff to interact and enhance their team spirit. This year, in addition to the participation of staff, learners, and alumni of the University, there is also the participation of officials from units in District 3, especially the enthusiastic participation of high school students from Nguyen Thi Dieu High School and Marie Curie High School. The Run aims to create a joyful and enthusiastic competitive atmosphere, contributing to strengthening the solidarity among alumni, learners, and high school students, as well as among staff both inside and outside the university”.

This is an annual event of the University, starting from 1997 and attracting a large number of participants. With the theme "For a greener future", the University hopes to spread the message of joining hands to protect the environment, raise awareness, promote community responsibility, encourage a green lifestyle, and contribute to preserving and developing a clean and beautiful living environment.

Athletes will compete in two distances: 3 km (for male learners) and 2 km (for staff, female learners, and high school students), starting from Ho Chi Minh City Open University, 97 Vo Van Tan Street, District 3, and running along Vo Van Tan, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Ngo Thoi Nhiem, Le Quy Don, and Tran Quoc Thao streets.
