Seminar "Solutions to improve the quality of online training and teaching in English Language for the 2024-2025 academic year"

On the morning of August 19, 2024, the E-learning Center and the Faculty of Foreign Language at the Ho Chi Minh City Open University co-organized a seminar entitled "Solutions to improve the quality of online training and teaching in English Language for the 2024-2025 academic year" at 97 Vo Van Tan Street and via Google Meet.

Attending the seminar, there were: Dr. Phan Thi Ngoc Thanh - Vice President of the University Council and Director of the Center for E-Learning; Dr. Nguyen Thuy Nga - Dean of Faculty of Foreign Language; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thong - Deputy Director of the Center for E-Learning; and staffs from both departments.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Phan Thi Ngoc Thanh expressed her sincere appreciation for the faculty's dedicated efforts in developing and implementing the online Bachelor's program in English over the past decade. She expressed her hope that the seminar would foster in-depth discussions and valuable suggestions for program improvement and quality enhancement.

Dr. Nguyen Thuy Nga emphasized that the seminar not only aimed to consolidate experiences for improving the quality of English language teaching but also served as essential preparation for developing programs and implementing training in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.

Following the seminar, faculty members presented specialized topics related to the status of online English language teaching from 2017 to 2024. The presentations focused on four main areas: (1) The current state of enrollment and program organization for English language programs from 2017 to the present, (2) Enhancing learner engagement in video conferences, (3) Managing stress and promoting mental health in online learning, and (4)
The use of ChatGPT Among E-Learners in Reading and Writing Courses at HCMC Open University: Practices and Solutions.

After the presentations, faculty members participated in a discussion to exchange ideas and propose suitable solutions to contribute to developing a plan for improving the quality of the online English program and teaching.

Through the lively and enthusiastic discussions among the faculty, numerous valuable insights were gathered. These insights represent innovative ideas to leverage existing strengths and address challenges encountered in developing and implementing the online English program.

The content of the presentations and the discussions served as a necessary foundation for the
Center for E-Learning and the Faculty of Foreign Language to develop specific solutions to improve the quality of online English language teaching and contribute to the overall quality of online education at Ho Chi Minh City Open University.
