“Department of Biotechnology Techniques” was established in June, 1991, which was the first university to educate biotechnology in Vietnam by the Ministry of Education and Training. In 1993, “Department of Biological Techniques” was changed to “Faculty of Biotechnology”.
Biotechnology is one of four technical and production programs belonged to the list of Government priorities in Vietnam. The aims of Biotechnology development and application are to construct a high-tech bio-economy industry, produce key and essential products, and additionally, contribute to the growth of national economic income. Since 1991, the Faculty of Biotechnology has been offered the higher education training, scientific research in fundamental and applied fields, such as agriculture, microorganisms, molecular biology, food and environment biotechnology, and technology transfer.
The Faculty of Biotechnology consists of 33 academic staffs (4 associate professors, 12 PhD, 16 Masters with 6 PhD students, and 1 Bachelor) and 3 official staffs (1 education assistant, 1 laboratory staff and 1 equipment and machinery assistant).
Our research facilities consist of 8 laboratories, located in our Binh Duong campus, and 1 Experimental farm located at Binh Thuan province, supporting collaborations between students, faculty researchers that lead to important advances in healthcare, molecular, agricultural, food and environmental research.
The stated aim of the program: The course is designed provide a good grounding in core biotechnology, critical thinking, ethics and good healthy to offer practical and applied knowledge in completion biotechnological projects.
The training program includes both theory and practice, focusing on the ability of practical application in life.
The program is designed flexibly in both training course and training methods, which is according to the actual needs of high-tech labor market requirement. Additionally, the well-designed program interfaces between disciplines, allows the graduates will increasingly be recruited for their adaptability, and they could adapt readily in a new culture and working environment.
The faculty of biotechnology has a strong background of academic research activities within the university and the city.
Academic research activities: Most of the academic staffs are chairman of many research projects within the remaining funds supported by different national or international sources in country. There are many studies have been published in national and international academic journal.
Student-based research activities: students have been taken part in many academic researches and presents a variety of awards in the student-based research contest such as Eureka, Sony Green, etc.
Candidate pursue careers as scientists in academia or industry, whereas others go on to apply their training and expertise in related fields.
Job opportunities are found in life science departments in colleges and universities; private and government research institutes; food production, pharmaceutical, agrichemical, and environmental industries.
Graduates join the teaching in colleges or universities.
Graduates may want to consider in business or economics to position themselves to excel in this industry, either in sales or management.
Graduates could continue their education in graduate (Master or PhD) or professional school.
